According to the artist “The works reveal a surreal world in formation-vivid, luminous, and unresolved. They draw from visible reality, but are charged with hidden stories and layered, evolving structures. The canvases often hum with an eerie stillness, where magic blends with realism, and solitary figures seem to await something unknown-yet they often become the very apparitions they anticipate.

Textured paint surfaces initially attract the viewer, only to guide them towards deeper, elusive meanings. These figures and spaces aren't grounded in ordinary life but emerge from spontaneous, almost dreamlike visions shaped during the act of painting. Illusion and material intertwine, forming a living abstraction where paint becomes presence.”

Botond Gagyi obtained his BFA and MFA from the Painting Department, University of Art and Design in Romania in 2015 and 2017 respectively. He is currently a PHD candidate where his research is focused on figurative representation under the sign of distortion. Gagyi's work has been awarded in multiple art competitions in Romania and Poland and it is held in private collections in Hungary, Romania, UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Panama, and the USA.
