American artist Jai Mitchell will participate in ART.Cy’s upcoming group exhibition The Masks We Wear, taking place on 24–25 October 2026 at the Aphrodite Amathusia Cultural Centre in Limassol.
Mitchell’s practice is deeply rooted in the emotional and psychological dimensions of painting. Drawing from personal history and lived experience, he creates layered abstractions and emotionally charged compositions that explore trauma, resilience, vulnerability and spiritual renewal. For Mitchell, painting becomes more than a visual medium: it is a process of healing, self-examination and self-reclamation.
His work frequently moves between fear and transformation, confronting anxiety and vulnerability while searching for moments of breakthrough and rebirth. His use of abstraction and symbolism allows personal experiences to become broader reflections on the human condition, making his work particularly relevant to the themes explored in The Masks We Wear.
A self-taught artist, Mitchell has exhibited internationally in Berlin, Barcelona, Milan and Washington, DC, as well as in the Metaverse. His paintings are held in private collections across the United States, Canada and Europe, and his work has received international media attention, including coverage in Der Tagesspiegel.
The Masks We Wear will take place on Saturday, 24 October and Sunday, 25 October 2026, from 11:00 to 20:00, at the Aphrodite Amathusia Cultural Centre in Limassol.
The exhibition brings together three artists working across different mediums and visual languages: Aristos Christoforou, Maria Kyprianou and Jai Mitchell. Together, their works offer different perspectives on identity, memory, emotion and transformation.
