ART.Cy is proud to announce a special masterclass, “Life in Limassol Before 1980 by Victor Ioannides,” offering an in-depth look at the work and legacy of one of Cyprus’s most influential artists. Led by renowned art historian and curator Antonia Loizou, this session will explore Ioannides’ depictions of Limassol’s past and his contributions to modern Cypriot art.
A graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts, Ioannides was a pioneer in Cyprus’s art scene, both as an educator and creator. His innovative painting techniques, particularly his unique fire-prepared color mixtures, gave his works an extraordinary luminosity and porcelain-like finish. Through impressionistic landscapes, seascapes, and everyday scenes, he captured the essence of Cypriot culture and heritage.
Beyond his artistic achievements, Ioannides played a key role in fostering the local creative community. In 1936, he co-founded The Atelier, Cyprus’s first design and advertising workshop, helping shape the island’s artistic identity.
This masterclass will provide valuable insights into Ioannides’ artistic vision and the historical influences that shaped his work. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of both Cyprus’s cultural heritage and the evolution of its modern art scene.
Join ART.Cy for this unique opportunity to explore the artistic and historical significance of Victor Ioannides. More details on the event schedule and participation will be announced soon
