YIANNIS SAKELLIS
Yiannis Sakellis is a multidisciplinary visual artist born in Paphos, Cyprus in 1983. He studied painting at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts “Pietro Vannucci” in Perugia, Italy, where he graduated in 2007 and received the Adelmo Maribelli Prize for artistic achievement. In 2018 he completed a Master’s degree in Art History and Theory at the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) in Limassol.
Sakellis works across a rich range of media including painting, drawing, thread art, installation, video, photography and printmaking. His artistic practice explores the aesthetic re-evaluation of lived experience, often encouraging viewers to engage emotionally with form, material and narrative.
He has presented numerous solo exhibitions in Cyprus, including shows such as Where Figures Drift, The Curtain, Fener and Fiber Optics. His work has also been included in international exhibitions in countries such as France, Mexico, Ukraine, the United States and the United Kingdom, reflecting a broad and engaged exhibition career.
Beyond his creative work, Sakellis has contributed to the art community as a curator and organiser of exhibitions and artist residencies and has taught art in both the private and public sectors. In 2015 he co-founded the Kimonos Art Center in Paphos, which continues as a collaborative space for artistic production and community engagement. He also served as event coordinator for the visual art programme of Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture.
Sakellis’s work is recognised for its thoughtful integration of concept and craft, and for the way it encourages reflection on memory, perception and the human condition.
