Riana Raouna Gallery to present the online solo exhibition of South-Korean artist Seungkyung Oh, "Heterotopia"

"Heterotopia" is based on Michel Foucault’s doctrine of a real yet fundamentally different space towards the fantastical and the ideal. Using diverse painterly strategies, Seungkyung Oh constructs canvases imbued with a layered sense of space. Her vibrant color palette, compositional approach, and textured surfaces evoke dreamlike, and at times uncanny, environments. These heterotopian landscapes are not only aesthetically magnetic—almost addictive in their visual appeal—but also serve as gateways for inner reflection.

The featured works invite viewer to reconnect with a primal desire to merge with nature and to open themselves to new forms of transformation. As such, the paintings transcend mere visual experience; they act as platforms for transformative encounters. These are deeply tied to our need to escape the rhythms of contemporary life and embrace alternative ways of seeing and being.

Seungkyung Oh holds a PhD in Painting from Seoul Sangmyung University, a BA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts and a MFA from Parsons School of Design, New York. She has been awarded with the "North Georgia Distinguished Fellowship 2019", the "IBM Blue wolf Company Award 2017" in New York City, and the "Korean Culture Minister Prize for Painting in 2010".

Oh participated in more than 40 solo and group exhibitions some of which including: World Art Expo, Solo Booth Exhibition, Yongin, South Korea (2025); ARTCY International Art Conference & Exhibition, Riana Raouna Gallery, Limassol, Cyprus (2025); ESTUARY, Gallery Aram, Seoul (2025); Jungle Odyssey, Space Kyeol, Seoul, (2024); 2nd Art-ist, Hyundai Department store, Seoul (2024); Beyond Color, Far Beyond Gallery, Seoul (2023); Journey Through Space, Galley KOSA, Seoul (2023); Utopia: Hybrid, Gunpo City Council, Gunpo, South Korea (2022); Kayaking Through A Rainbow, Gallery Wolhae, Seoul (2022).
