Renos Loizou’s First Retrospective Exhibition in Cyprus Opens at Limassol Municipal Arts Centre

The Limassol Municipal Arts Centre – Apothikes Papadaki presents a landmark exhibition honoring the life and work of renowned painter Renos Loizou (1948-2013). Titled “Renos Loizou (1948-2013): The Matter as Landscape”, this long-awaited retrospective—curated by George Taxiarchopoulos—runs from March 28 to May 3, 2025.

Marking the first comprehensive presentation of Loizou’s work in Cyprus, the exhibition gathers 59 paintings currently held on the island. It highlights Loizou’s distinctive artistic journey, shaped largely in Cambridge, Britain, where he established himself as a leading figure in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. The exhibition catalogue features 67 artworks sourced from 16 private collectors and major institutions, including the S.O.F.I.A. Foundation, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, and the State Collection of Cyprus Art.

The official opening, on behalf of H.E. President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, will be conducted by Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 19:00. The event will be attended by art collectors, officials, and distinguished guests, followed by a reception.
