About the Artists
Marina Emphietzi᾽s new work develops the theme of seascapes that she is identified with and internationally recognized, as confirmed by the honours she has received, most recently from the Chelsea Summer Exhibition (2022) and Saatchi Gallery (2024). The materials she uses are primarily oil and acrylics on canvas. Her vigorous waves, having their own driving force, rendered with relief brushstrokes, are impressive as they head towards the shores, the latter rarely appearing in the compositions, while usually they are implied or hinted. Her palette includes shades of blue, sandy brown and white.
The focus of Elena Sarri Varnava's work is the human being and the visual, intuitive depiction of their inner world. Inspired by what most people bypass, the painter capitalizes on the trivial details of life, the remnants of normality, whether it is about marginalised people, such as our homeless fellow human beings, who star in her recent work, or about materials that, while they could be identified as worthless, are used in her works and coexist with the traditional artistic media she uses, namely watercolour, pastel, charcoal and acrylics. In this exhibition, Elena Sarri Varnava shows a complete series of monotype silkscreen prints in a variety of colours, demonstrating repeatedly the same figure, either on his own or in recurring compositions.
