Marleen Lorek
Marleen is a German-born abstract mixed-media artist based in Paphos, Cyprus, with over 20 years of artistic practice. Her professional background in live event lighting technology has shaped her understanding of light, colour and spatial atmosphere, informing her approach to visual art.
She works with acrylic, structural paste, crackle medium, handmade paper and upcycled denim on canvas, building layered surfaces that emphasise texture and physical depth. Her process is intuitive; each piece develops without preliminary sketches, guided by the interaction of materials and structural decisions.
Her collections include Mediterranean-inspired coastal abstractions and the Second Life Series, in which reclaimed denim is integrated into sculptural mixed-media compositions. Her work engages with contrasts between density and openness, tension and calm, weight and light.
Marleen has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and internationally, including exhibitions in Europe and the United States. She lives and works in Paphos, Cyprus.
