Marina Emphietzi
Marina Emphietzi is an award-winning Greek Cypriot contemporary seascape and landscape artist based in London. Renowned for her distinctive semi-abstract style, Marina draws deep inspiration from the sea and marine environment, reflecting a profound personal connection to water. Her artworks capture the fluidity and emotional depth of the ocean, employing vivid colours, rich textures, and dynamic compositions to convey nature’s essence.
Her work blends traditional mixed media techniques with modern and conceptual approaches, pushing the boundaries of contemporary seascape painting. Her compositions break with convention by blending abstraction and realism, creating seascapes that feel both seen and deeply felt.
In 2022, Marina won the top prize at the prestigious Chelsea Summer Exhibition. She studied under Master Artist Shakeel at the Dubai International Arts Centre, holds qualifications from Central Saint Martins (London) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS). In addition to her art practice, Marina has contributed significantly to arts education, serving on the Arts Advisory Committee at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre, and holds professional accreditation as a strategic planning consultant.

Marina’s work explores themes of time, life, and memory, often described as a reflection and celebration of life and the human spirit. Influenced by Greek mythology and artists like J. M. W. Turner, she creates vibrant paintings full of textures, energy, and a playful spirit, predominantly inspired by the sea. Her compositions portray natural forms in a semi-abstract manner, marked by strong tonal variations and ongoing experimentation with subject matter and techniques.
